Fees from May 2012
The CNHC increased its fees for the first time since the register opened in January 2009. The increase in fees will enable CNHC to continue to enhance its registration processes and carry out further development work.
With effect from 8 May 2012 the basic registration fee is £55. The fee for registration of additional disciplines is at £10 per discipline (to a maximum of four, after which it is free).
CNHC Approve Professional Reflexology
The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council have approved Professional Reflexology as a verifying association of it's member qualifications for registration with CNHC.
What is the CNHC?
What is the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and what are the benefits of CNHC registration?
The CNHC is the UK regulator for complementary healthcare which was set up with Government support
The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) opened its register in January 2009. Its key function is to enhance public protection by setting nationally agreed standards for registration. It follows over ten years of work by many professional associations to introduce regulation to complementary healthcare in the UK.
At the time of writing the CNHC registers practitioners from twelve disciplines: Aromatherapy, Alexander Technique Teaching, Bowen Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Massage Therapy, Microsystems Acupuncture, Naturopathy, Nutritional Therapy, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Sports & Remedial Therapy and Yoga Therapy. Practitioners from further disciplines are due to be eligible to register during 2011. (For details see www.cnhc.org.uk )
The CNHC is different from professional associations
The role of the CNHC is different to the role of professional associations. It has been set up to ensure public protection and acts in the interest of the public. Practitioners register with the CNHC and go onto a public register.
Professional associations like Professional Reflexology are membership organisations. They provide a range of benefits and services for practitioners and act in the interest of the profession. They support the CNHC in setting standards for registration and accreditation and work to support practitioners with meeting those standards.
Benefits of CNHC registration
There are a wide range of benefits for practitioners who register with the CNHC.
Government recognition: The CNHC was set up with Government support:
"I am very supportive of voluntary regulation and the work that the CNHC has been doing since its inception in 2008. The CNHC has achieved a great deal in the last three years and I have been especially interested to learn of the increasing numbers of registrants you have attracted in the last few months." (Health Minister, Anne Milton, February 2011)
Use of the CNHC quality mark: Practitioners who register with the CNHC are able to use the CNHC quality mark on their websites and in publicity materials. This demonstrates to the public and commissioners of services that the practitioner concerned is on the CNHC register and has met national standards. (Click here for more information )
Entry on national register: CNHC-registered practitioners appear on the CNHC's national register which received over 40,000 searches in 2010. CNHC is also a content partner with Yell.com, the online Yellow Pages directory, and so provides information on Yell.com about why it is important for members of the public seeking complementary healthcare practitioners to choose someone who is CNHC registered.
Employment advantages: An increasing range of bodies such as employers and insurers are using CNHC registration and the CNHC quality mark as a validation of standards. CNHC registration is increasingly becoming a requirement for referrals.
CNHC and professional associations working together: The CNHC and professional associations are working together to raise and maintain standards and it is increasingly seen as good practice to sign up to both.
CNHC registration and the CNHC quality mark demonstrate to the public and others that you meet national standards of practice. This builds confidence in you, your practice and in complementary healthcare.
Professional Reflexology has been approved by the CNHC to verify applications to register. Registration costs £45 for a single discipline and for annual renewal. Any member wishing to register with the CNHC should contact the Professional Reflexology office or download the 'Request to register' form on the Professional Reflexology website. Details of the process are set out in the CNHC's Step by Step Guide.
